WELCOME TO PSYCHOLOGY SUMMER 2022 ACADEMIC ADVISING AND COURSE REGISTRATION!

The Department of Psychology is excited to welcome our newest Hokies! Virtual Academic Advising and Course Registration is one of the most important parts of your transition to college. This is where you will learn about life as a Hokie, obtain very important information for your success, and meet with your academic advisor to enroll in classes for the fall semester.

Virtual Academic Advising and Course Registration for Fall 2022

 

1. CREATE your VT Username (PID)
(complete by June 13)

2. ENROLL in the 2-Factor Authentication with Duo

3. DOWNLOAD the DUO Mobile App on your personal smartphone and enroll the device

4. ADD your VT email to your personal smartphone

5. ACCESS and READ your VT GMail daily

6. DOWNLOAD Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer for FREE! You will need this software when completing the College of Science Orientation Worksheet and other forms at the university. Complete this before attempting the remainder of this checklist.

1. BOOKMARK the College of Science website

2. LOOKUP VT courses equivalent to Advanced Placement (AP), Cambridge International Examination, College Level Examination Program (CLEP), Dual Enrollment (DE), International Baccalaureate (IB) scores and Transfer Credits. (complete by July 6)

2. Visit the Summer Academic Advising webpage. At the top, it tells you to download, fill out, and upload the Expected Courses/Credits Worksheet. Do this, and upload any college transcripts, at least one week before your advising appointment.

3. Starting June 8, you will be receiving emails from the psychology advising team. The emails will direct you to register for a few specific required courses (do this in June), and schedule an appointment with your primary academic advisor (the appointment will take place in July). Registering courses will be done through a system called Hokie Scheduler. Please watch this Hokie Scheduler video for instructions.

1. SIGN UP for University New Student Orientation
You will receive an email invitation with a link to register for New Student Orientation. Orientation will be held May 1 - July 31.   

2. COMPLETE the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you wish to apply for financial aid

Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) provides accommodations to students on a case-by-case basis. SSD offers a host of accommodations, including classroom accommodations, accommodations for deaf and hard of hearing students, the SSD testing center, note-takers, alternate text, and housing accommodations. Students who wish to receive accommodations must register with SSD. If you received accomodations at your previous institution, you may want to contact SSD to see what services are available to you.
